2008
ADVENTURE BASE IS BORN
Adventure Base was founded by Andy Eggleston and Kenton Cool, who at the time had only climbed Everest a mere 8 times...
2009
CHARLIE JOINS THE TEAM
Charlie joins the team fresh out of university looking for a little adventure before he gets a 'real job'.
2010
SKIING MANASLU
Kenton and Andy ski from the summit of Manaslu, Kenton's 2nd ski descent on an 8000m peak and Andy's first. Kenton was the first Brit to ski an 8000m peak back in 2006 when he skied Cho Oyu.
2012
SIR RICHARD BRANSON CLIMBS WITH US
Sir Richard Branson and Princess Beatrice as part of a charity climb for the 'Big Change' successfully climbed Mont Blanc with Adventure Base. The group showed Adventure Base a thing or two about how to celebrate once we were back down in the Chamonix valley.
2014
OLLY JOINS THE TEAM
Charlie meets a girl and decides to leave Chamonix for a better life in Leicestershire in the UK (What an idiot!). He's replaced by Olly, who was forged from rock, ice and skis to create the ultimate mountain enthusiast and team player.
2015
GROWTH
Adventure Base starts to grow year on year as more and more people enjoy the trips we offer. Mont Blanc becomes a firm favourite and our offering expands to other sought after peaks.
2018
SIR RICHARD BRANSON RETURNS
This time he's back with 30 of his friends as part of the Virgin Strive Challenge. An adventure that took them up Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and a pretty chunky bike ride between the two. Jeeeeez, give us a break Richard...
2019
KENTON CLIMBS EVEREST FOR THE 14TH TIME
That's right, 14 times up Everest and back. There's not a lot Kenton doesn't know about that mountain.
2020
CHARLIE RETURNS TO THE TEAM
Charlie married and had two children with 'that girl' and convinced her a life in Chamonix helping people take on adventures was the place for them. Olly (Operations Director) and Charlie (Managing Director) now run Adventure Base with the goal of sharing their passion for the mountains with others.
2021
LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL
A tough 18 months as COVID-19 spread across the world halting life as we all knew it. Everyone was affected but the travel industry was one of those that felt it most. After a period of enforced rest we were finally able to do what we do best as we managed to run some trips in the back half of the summer.
2022
WE'RE BACK BABY!
We experienced a post Covid boom with more travellers coming from all over the world to enjoy the Alps. We added Virginia to our team as our Customer Relationship Manager and Tom as our Head of Sustainability. We also introduced self guided trekking products in to the mix for the first time in our history... What a year!
2023
BUILD
We look back at 2023 fondly. We added the calming influence of Beth to our squad who now looks after all our clients. We then added Harriet and her puppy like energy to help with our sales efforts. This was also the year we launched our 'Better Business' ambitions to help keep us honest. However, most importantly, this year we helped more clients then ever experience the mountains.

CHARLIE KRARUP 🇬🇧
MANAGING DIRECTOR
Charlie is tasked with steering the ship amongst everything else. A big dreamer with a drive to make things happen, he's always up for a challenge. Whether it's skiing, cycling or climbing in the mountains, he's ready for that next thing.
OLLY ALKEMA 🇳🇱
OPERATIONS DIRECTOR
Olly is in charge of year round operations and logistics of our trips and expeditions. With a keen eye for detail and a personable approach, he leaves no stone unturned. He is a passionate skier who fell in love with the Alps on his first ski trip in 2012 and hasn’t looked back since.
VIRGINIA HOURIHANE 🇮🇪
BUSINESS & ACCOUNTS MANAGER
Virginia keeps the ship on the straight and narrow. With an eye for detail she oversees accounts and business workings for us here at Adventure Base. A true lover of the mountains in all conditions you'll often find her ski touring, running, climbing and mountaineering her way around the Alps.

Meet Beth, our Chamonix based Kiwi. Whether she's tackling questions, getting folks ready for their journeys, or making welcome meetings a breeze, her laid back attitude helps even the most frantic relax.

OPERATIONS EXECUTIVE
Meet Estelle our French representative. When she's not talking with refuge owners and guides you'll find her (and her tent) exploring the Alps. She adds a certain 'je ne sais quoi' to the office.
HARRIET KRARUP 🇬🇧
TRAVEL ADVISOR
Harriet heads up our sales and social media responsibilities. She spends most of her time being extremely happy and loves helping spread her passion for being active outdoors. She's basically the human equivalent of a Labrador puppy.
Will Derrick 🇮🇹
CAMERA GUY
An avid mountaineer, he is particularly adept at filming in the high alpine environment. Coming from a competitive freestyle skiing background, he is as comfortable shooting in the snowpark as he is dangling from a windswept mountain face.

We've made it our mission to improve our environmental practices as a standard. Not as a promotion to make us look better, but because it's essential. That's why we've designed our three point action plan that holds us, as a company, and you, as individuals, responsible for any damage we might cause. We want healthy adventures, not just fun ones!
- You offset your carbon emissions on every trip you book by paying a little bit more
- We offset our own carbon emissions as a business on a monthly basis through 'Ecologi'
- We commit ourselves to being part of the conversation by constantly improving, innovating and holding ourselves accountable to whatever needs to be done. We're doing that through 'Tourism Declares'
- As of the end of 2021 you have helped us plant 639 trees and offset 40 tonnes of carbon (That's the equivalent of 31 long haul flights or 98000 miles driven in a car.)
