Our first Haute Route group of the spring ski touring season endured challenging conditions and mixed weather but made the most of it with a courageous spirit and some really enjoyable ski descents. Battling high winds most of the way, whenever the sun did come out it felt extra special and some great powder turns were had. Thanks to the group for being a great team!

Skiers Haute Route. Great weather and snow conditions on the first stage of the skiers Haute Route. We managed to reach the Cabane des Dix just as the weather came in, and it was decided to abort the trip and exit to the Swiss village of Arolla and head back to Chamonix. The weather had taken a turn for the worse with 70km winds and a snow blizzard posing the group serious danger if they were to carry on to Zermatt.
We’ll post some photos of what the group got up to instead over the next few days. The great thing about skiing in the Chamonix area is there is always a plan B, C, D…. etc. Sometimes the weather simply doesn’t play ball, but that’s just part and parcel of life in the mountains.
