A fantastic week ski touring the classic Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt with a great team. We had cold temperatures and a fresh layer of snow which made for a little more of a wintery feel, but we wrapped up warm and enjoyed the fresh turns. Especially down the Valle d’arpette from the Cabane du Trient, which was one of the best conditions we’ve had on this trip over the years.
Thanks to a great team and our friends in the refuges along the way for hosting us.

Skiers Haute Route. Great weather and snow conditions on the first stage of the skiers Haute Route. We managed to reach the Cabane des Dix just as the weather came in, and it was decided to abort the trip and exit to the Swiss village of Arolla and head back to Chamonix. The weather had taken a turn for the worse with 70km winds and a snow blizzard posing the group serious danger if they were to carry on to Zermatt.
We’ll post some photos of what the group got up to instead over the next few days. The great thing about skiing in the Chamonix area is there is always a plan B, C, D…. etc. Sometimes the weather simply doesn’t play ball, but that’s just part and parcel of life in the mountains.
