Ice Climb Norway

Introducing the first trip in our new 'Breaking Trail Series', exclusive to anyone whose adventured with us before or who has booked to do so. We will only run a few of these tips a year, each one different and only if the right type of adventure presents itself. Olly, Kenton and the guides have been talking about trips like this for a few years now but finally we're here.

ADVENTURE WITH GREAT PEOPLE IN A WILD ENVIRONMENT!

We're offering a select few the chance to experience a new adventure on this once in a life time trip. We're heading off to Norway to tackle some of the worlds best ice climbs. Norway, and specifically Rjukan, is so densely packed with ice falls, you will be spoilt for choice. You'll understand why they call it the ice climbing capital of Europe.

We've built this trip for two reasons. The first, it's something we would love to do ourselves, so we figured you would as well. The second is to say thanks to anyone whose supported us over the years. This trip is only available to those who have adventured with us before or have a trip coming up in the future. As part of the 'Breaking Trail Series' this trip is exclusive and therefore likely to be oversubscribed.

We're also fully aware that people are a little worried about the likelihood that this trip will take place given the current travel restrictions. The booking will be completely refundable and we'll make a call by the 30th of January as to whether this trip will go ahead.

Oh, and the best thing about it, you don't need any mountaineering experience to enjoy it. Who's up for an ice climbing adventure?

What to expect from your accommodation

Rjukan cabins fit in beautifully with Rjukan's environment and surroundings.

Norway-2

Rjukan Cabins

Rjukan cabins are copies of the first worker's homes built in conjuction with the industrial movement at the beginning of the 1900's.

These houses are situated on the west side of town and called "Flekkebyen" (the spotted town) because of all the different colours used on the houses. This is why Rjukan cabins are also different colours.

Adventure Itinerary

While we try and stick to the tried and tested itinerary below, the mountain and the weather sometimes has other ideas. We will always remain as flexible as possible, which is why we only work with experienced and knowledgeable guides, to make sure we can change any plans if required.

  • Day 1:
    27th Feb - Arrive

Fly in to Oslo and meet the Adventure Base team and the rest of the group at the airport. We pick up our vehicles and hit the road in search of adventure. Overnight in our warm and cosy cabins.

  • Day 2:
28th Feb - Ice Climbing Intro

After breakfast we head to the outdoors. Led by guides on a 2:1 ratio, the group will explore the local wild Norwegian environment and try their hand at some ice climbing.

  • Day 3-5:
    29th Feb - 3rd March Adventure Time

We progress your skills in the mountains over these next 3 days with different outdoor experiences and skills progressions. We'll also try our hand at a few different mountain activities just to keep things fresh... We overnight in our warm cosy cabin each night.

  • Day 6:
    4th March - Departure

We check out of our cabins in the morning and the trip ends back in the capital city of Oslo as we head back to 'normality' and leave the great outdoors behind. Either fly home or stick around for a day or two exploring this wonderful city.

Fabio

Lead IFMGA

Fabio has guided with us for close to ten years now and has summited Mont Blanc more times than we can remember. He's even helped Sir Richard Brans get to the top of Western Europe. When asked what his favourite mountain was his response was 'It's the mountain not known to many, in a remote country that provides opportunity for adventure. That said, I do love Cordillera Blanca (Peru) to guide in, Montserrat (Barcelona) because it's where it all started for me and Main De Fatima (Mali) because it's special to me!"
