Curious about what to expect from our Intro to Trail Running course? Here’s a breakdown of the most frequently asked questions—whether you’re brand new to trail running or looking to build a solid foundation in one of the most iconic mountain towns in the world.
What is this course all about?
This is a chance to acquire the fundamental skills of trail running while exploring the breathtaking trails of Chamonix. Whether you’re completely new or have a little experience and want to progress, this course is designed to help you build confidence, improve technique, and fall in love with trail running.
Do I need to be super fit or experienced?
Nope. You just need to be able to run on flat ground for 90 minutes at a slow to moderate pace and comfortably hike for 2 hours in the mountains. Any trail experience is a bonus, but not required.
What does a typical day look like?
Each day includes a trail run focused on mechanics and form across different types of terrain. You’ll also get mini-workshops on hydration, injury prevention, and training strategies. Expect one-on-one coaching with Chloë Lanthier, plus plenty of time to relax and soak in the Chamonix vibe.
What gear do I need?
Here’s your essential kit list. Please get in touch if you have more specific questions.
What kind of trails will we run on?
Expect a mix of well-maintained mountain trails, forest paths, and rolling terrain. You’ll get a bit of everything without diving into overly technical or extreme routes. The goal is to teach, not overwhelm.
What if I’ve never run trails before?
That’s exactly why we created this course. We cover the basics of technique, pacing, terrain awareness, and gear use. You’ll leave feeling way more confident and capable.
What’s the vibe—social or serious?
Definitely social and supportive. You’ll train hard, but it’s all about shared experience, community, and encouraging progress—not competition.
Can I come alone?
Yes, and lots of participants do. This is a great space to meet like-minded runners and connect over shared goals (and maybe a mountain view or two).
How do I know if I’m ready?
Take our quick Readiness ScoreApp Test to check your base fitness and get instant feedback. If you’re not quite there, no worries—we can help you build up.
What makes Chamonix a great place to learn trail running?
Chamonix is one of the most iconic mountain towns in the world, with a huge variety of trails—from rolling forest paths to alpine routes. The scenery is stunning, the terrain is diverse, and the town has an incredible trail-running culture. It’s the perfect classroom for learning, growing, and getting inspired.
How many people are in the group?
We keep group sizes small and personal to ensure everyone gets the attention they need. This allows for quality coaching, safer trail experiences, and a more supportive group vibe.
What if I need to take breaks or can’t keep up?
That’s totally fine. This course is paced to match the group, and there’s no pressure to push beyond your limits. Walk breaks, photo stops, and steady pacing are all part of the experience. The goal is progress, not perfection.
What kind of support do I get from the coach?
You’ll have one-on-one time with Chloë Lanthier, who brings years of experience in trail running, biomechanics, and endurance coaching. You’ll get personalised feedback during runs, plus the chance to ask questions and get guidance throughout the course.
