154 KM'S OF SCOTLANDS FINEST
The West Highland Way as a long-distance trail was conceived in the 1960s by Scottish businessman and hiker Tom Weir, who was inspired by similar trails in Europe and North America. Weir’s vision was to create a trail that would connect the industrial city of Glasgow to the wilds of the Scottish Highlands, offering both locals and visitors a chance to experience Scotland’s stunning natural beauty in a more accessible way.
In 1966, Scotland’s National Trust for Scotland (NTS) and other regional organisations began working on a plan to establish the West Highland Way as an official walking route. It was finally completed and officially opened in 1980, quickly becoming one of the most popular and iconic long-distance hiking trails in the UK.
This 7-day itinerary offers the perfect way to experience some of Scotland’s most stunning trails and breathtaking views. With slightly longer daily distances and notable elevation changes, it adds a touch of challenge to your adventure—just enough to leave you feeling accomplished without being too fatigued to tackle the next stage. In other words, you’ll have more than earned that well-deserved dram of local whisky each evening!
